Oculoplastic and Orbital Dissection Course

Day 1 – Lectures – QUEENSLAND EYE INSTITUTE & ZOOM
Day 2 – Dissection Workshop – THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND DISSECTION LAB

Friday 24th – Saturday 25th February 2023

Organised by Dr Alexandra Manta & Dr Kathy Luong

Mastering oculoplastic and orbital surgery requires a deep understanding of periocular anatomy.

The main objective of this course is to familiarise ophthalmology trainees with eyelid, lacrimal and orbital anatomy through focused lectures and hands-on practical experience through using cadaver dissections. Furthermore, we aim to help ophthalmology trainees in integrating their anatomy knowledge with common surgical procedures used in the treatment of ocular adnexal disease such as dermatochalasis, ptosis, entropion, ectropion, eyelid and orbital trauma, lacrimal disease, and thyroid eye disease.

This two day workshop will be divided into 2 components and span across one weekend by having our instructors discuss the theoretical knowledge required to perform common surgical procedures encountered in Oculoplastics during the first half of the course. Then, we aim to consolidate that knowledge in the practical component in the second half of the course.

On the first day, the instructors will provide an overview of anatomy, disease presentation, evaluation, and surgical treatment at the Queensland Eye Institute. The anatomy and surgical techniques that were discussed on the previous day will be demonstrated by our instructors in a step-by-step fashion at the University of Queensland dissection lab. The participants will be able to practice their new skills under the direct supervision and guidance of our vastly experienced faculty.

Participants will be able to register for one or both days of the course. The first day of lectures will be available both in person and virtual via Zoom meetings. Attendees will be given the opportunity to review recorded lectures and surgical videos up to 4 weeks after the course. The practical component of the course will have limited seating due to the availability of cadavers for instructors/attendees.

** Please note Zoom Meeting attendance is only available for the first day of the course.
