Dr Alexander Newman is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and eye surgeon specialising in cataract, macular disease, retinal disease, and ophthalmic laser.
Dr Newman is a Fellow of the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and has undertaken multiple subspecialty fellowships. He combines state-of-the-art technology with personalised treatment plans to achieve the best possible vision for his patients.
Dr Newman completed medical school at Griffith University, graduating with distinction, before undertaking ophthalmology training in Queensland. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and went on to complete the Professorial Fellowship in Medical Retina and Uveitis at Sydney Eye Hospital, alongside a Clinical Research Fellowship at the Save Sight Institute. He has also completed additional subspecialty training with a comprehensive fellowship year at Mater Hospital Brisbane, RBWH, and the Queensland Ocular Oncology Service (QOOS), further refining his skills in advanced cataract surgery and complex ophthalmic conditions.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Newman holds a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) with High Distinction from the University of Sydney, and a First-Class Honours degree in Optometry from Queensland University of Technology. His academic achievements have been recognised with prestigious accolades including the Clarence and Mabel Clark Prize, Anthony Molteno Award, 2025 CORE Award nomination, and research grants from the National Institute of Health. He has published widely and presented at leading national and international conferences.
