Dr Beatrix Feigl, MD, PhD, graduated in medicine and specialised in ophthalmology at the Medical University of Graz, Austria. She completed a PhD in vision science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Beatrix is currently an Associate Professor at QUT. She has held clinical and research appointments at the Medical University Clinic Graz Austria, the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute USA, and the Department of Neuro-Ophthalmology and Electrophysiology, University of Tübingen Germany.
A/Prof Feigl is internationally recognised for her fundamental studies of melanopsin, rod and cone photoreceptor function in the healthy human and diseased retina. This includes the first identification of melanopsin dysfunction in glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, in diabetes, in migraineurs and in people with Parkinson’s disease.
Beatrix has over 100 peer-reviewed journal publications and has been awarded research funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Research Council (ARC), the ophthalmic industry, the Austrian Ophthalmological Society, the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and Shake IT Up Australia.
