Bio

Dr Alexandra Manta is a surgeon and clinical researcher committed to advancing the field of orbital and oculoplastic surgery through clinical care, research and innovation. Dr Manta completed her training in ophthalmology in Romania and the United Kingdom and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK). She subsequently completed three fellowships in orbital, lacrimal, and oculoplastic surgery under renowned oculoplastic surgeons in the USA and Australia, including Prof Timothy Sullivan, Miss Michele Beaconsfield and Prof Robert Goldberg.

In addition to her clinical practice and research activities at the Queensland Eye Institute, she is a consultant oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgeon at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, a lecturer at the University of Queensland and a visiting researcher at the Queensland University of Technology.

Dr Manta supports Queensland Eye Institute research on the pathophysiologic involvement of collagen in eyelid laxity disorders and investigating the effect of downregulation of IGF-1R expression in orbital fibroblasts derived from patients with thyroid eye disease through genome editing. She is also involved in several thyroid eye disease drug trials.

Dr Manta is active in education, running courses on subjects including oculoplastic and orbital dissection and cosmetic filler complications. She also conducts regular oculoplastic teaching and research focus group meetings for medical residents, principal house officers, and registrars at the Queensland Eye Institute. She has been published in peer-reviewed journals and authored chapters in medical textbooks.

Alexandra enjoys spending time with family and friends, and in her spare time she loves playing board games and reading. She is passionate about teaching and supporting junior doctors and feels proud to contribute to the next generation of eye specialists. Her approach to care is centred on kindness, careful attention to detail, and genuine respect for each patient’s individual needs.
