Dr Brendan Cronin is a Corneal and Anterior Segment Surgeon and the Director of Education at the Queensland Eye Institute.
Dr Cronin grew up on the Gold Coast and completed his medical and ophthalmic training in Brisbane. He trained in his subspecialty of Corneal, Refractive and Anterior Segment Surgery at the prestigious Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom. He performs all types of corneal transplant surgery, pterygium surgery, micro-incision cataract surgery and surgery for glaucoma. He is a specialist in complex cataract surgical procedures. Dr Cronin has a special interest in keratoconus especially LASER “Athen’s Protocol” corneal resurfacing combined with collagen cross-linking. He provides specialised treatment for severe dry eye patients as was the first doctor in Australia to have an Intense Pulsed Light “IPL” machine for treating dry eye.
Dr Cronin believes in educating patients to better understand their eye condition. He utilises the latest technology in imaging including macro cameras, high-resolution ultrasound and laser scans to show patients what is happening to their eye and how their condition can be best treated.
Dr Cronin has published articles in numerous international ophthalmology journals and is a member of both The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and The Cornea Society.
When he isn’t at work Dr Cronin enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 daughters. He enjoys running and cyclocross bike riding.
